Remembering whether to multiply or divide to convert a measurement can be a challenge unless you remember the "hand jive."
So it's little to big divide. Big to little multiply.
Take changing inches to feet. You're going for little to big, so you'll divide.
If you are going from kilometers to meters, you'll multiply.
It was really cute seeing my students in class doing the hand jive while taking a test!
Even when I taught in 5th and 6th grade in the classroom, helping students remember gallons, quarts, pints, and cups was always a pain. I must admit that I would remember long enough for classroom use, but then I would forget it when it came to my kitchen.

In case you didn't make it out. Inside the Gallon castle lived four queens (quarts). Each queen had a prince and princess (pints) and each of them had two cats (cups).
